Darren and David talk about the highs and lows of the film, how well it was transitioned to television, and whether it holds up after nearly 15 years.

  • another good podcast, it was interesting listening.
I don’t remember much about the movie, other than it was kind of a shock to see other actors as Jack and Daniel.
I liked Ra (as a character).
Never been to a con, hope someday to go, but would be quite self concious around the actors, so perhaps it will never happen!

  • Here’s a plausible explanation for the Creek Mountain / Cheyenne Mountain continuity issue. Creek Mountain is a missile silo facility nearly adjacent to Cheyenne Mountain. When the Stargate project began, you had to go to the Creek Mountain entrance. After the project was wound down, an existing access was opened from Cheyenne Mountain to the silo. This access was formerly kept closed for secrecy. But, once the project was wound down, it was re-opened to reduce overhead for security, and the large Creek Mountain entrance was blocked.

Even in SG-1, they state the gate is in a “missile silo”. That is their explanation as to how they get the second stargate into the gate-room. Yet, Cheyenne Mountain isn’t a missile silo. It houses NORAD. Also, there is no DOWN elevator in Cheyenne Mountain. The facility is basically built straight back into the mountain at the same level as the entrance. However, a missile silo might need that down elevator …

Hey, it is at least semi-plausible, assuming Creek Mountain isn’t a real place with some other location.

  • Hi guy’s! I just came upon this podcast recently and now I am addicted to listening to you guy’s and love hearing other people’s opinion’s about my favorite show’s for a change. Cause on regular entertainment show’s they get talked about very little.
As for this week’s listener question. I have been to many convention’s in my time. Mostly started out going to alot of Star Trek convention’s., then spanned out to Herc & Xena conventions, and then I had gone to one StarGate convention in New York by Creation featuring Michael Shanks, Rachel Luttrell, & Teryl Rothery I think Amanda Tapping was supposed to be there at the time, but I think I wound up getting her autograph in the mail or something like that cause she couldn’t make it? It was really great to meet them in person. I even got a photograph with Michael Shanks though. Least to say I was giddy. I am always in my happy place when I go to a science fiction convention. I just find that that is the one opportunity that I get to be around my people I always used to call them. That everyone has the same interest for a change. And I get to be around actor’s that I looked up to as heroes and who play heroes on tv & in movies. I also got a great picture photo op outside of the photo ops lol, of Don S. Davis and the guy who plays Teal’c’s mentor. I forget his name at the moment. I guess that would be how I would describe a convention to someone who has never gone to them before, they are just fun. And u get to mingle around people who have the same interests too. Can’t beat that.

  • Listening to the podcast right now. I’m with you guys, I still can’t believe French Stewart played Ferretti! I first saw this movie in 2010, after only having seen a handful of SG-1 episodes. I really like the movie, especially Kurt Russell, even though he was kind of an asshole, certainly not the way Richard Dean Anderson depicted him later on when the series started, even though his depiction in the pilot wasn’t even what Jack O’Neill would wind up being like as the series progreeses.

The movie actually moves at a great pace, it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s 2 hours, and the ending is great…you just get the feeling that Jack will be ok, him and Daniel are on better terms. I guess in 1994 no one believed there was going to be any more from this…and thank goodness there was!

I think this is also the only time I have ever liked James Spader in anything I have ever seen him in, he was just so sweet and so human as Daniel Jackson, it’s actually a shame that he didn’t like the character and only did it for a paycheck. Bastard.

Thoroughly an excellent movie, I bought it several months ago for $6.99, and eventually am going to watch it again.

Excellent podcast – I have put the SG-1 podcasts on my iPod, and plan to listen to them as time allows.

“Give my regards to King Tut, asshole!”
